TELUS today announced a brand-new Facebook feature on Optik TV. Thanks to the power of IP television, TELUS Optik TV customers are the first in Canada to browse Facebook from their TV without missing a minute of their favourite shows.

“We have pulled out all the stops with Optik TV, which reflects the company’s commitment to innovation, inspiration and change. The result is amazing. Seeing is believing,” said Clment Audet, vice-president, Consumer Marketing at TELUS. “TELUS continues to innovate by integrating the popular social networking capability of Facebook with Optik TV. This new function is one more example of TELUS’ leadership in exploiting the full power of IP technology.”

Created in cooperation with technology partner ES3, the new Facebook application is available for free to Optik TV customers and works simply with the existing Optik TV remote control. It offers an opinion sharing feature that allows TELUS subscribers to display what they are watching on their wall. They can see status updates, wall messages, find friends and write messages. Subscribers can also display photo albums from Facebook on their TVs in full-screen slide show mode.

Optik TV revolutionizes how subscribers watch TV

Optik TV service is powered by award-winning Microsoft Mediaroom. With this latest technological advance, TELUS will ensure that it continues to offer subscribers the most innovative technology available.

Optik TV offers never before seen functionality including a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) that acts as a server for your entire home so you can watch and record your shows on any TV in your home, record up to four programs at once, or pause a show and pick it up from the same spot in another room. The PVR records up to 115 hours of high-definition (HD) or 295 hours of standard definition programs. This is the highest capacity on the market.

Additional user-friendly features include picture-in-picture browsing, an interactive TV guide, on-screen call display and Remote Record which allows customers to manage their recordings when they are away from home, using any Internet-connected computer, iPhone or select BlackBerry device. Video-On-Demand is also available through a fast and user-friendly guide.

Optik TV offers a wide range of content with more than 300 channels. Flexible theme packs or customized channel packages provide unparalleled selection. Customers can also subscribe to HD service to access images ten times sharper than standard definition television with Dolby 5.1 audio quality. A total of 51 channels, including 21 French-language channels, are available in HD.

Optik TV service is available in the Lower St. Lawrence, the Gasp, the North Shore and the greater Quebec City region. For more information about Optik TV or to bundle TELUS services and enjoy significant savings, customers can visit www.telusquebec.com.
