Phones 4U to stock PlayBook at launch

Retailer announces it will stock the new BlackBerry tablet when it becomes available in the UK but cannot reveal pricing or release date

Retailer Phones 4U will stock the BlackBerry PlayBook (pictured) when it launches in the UK although no launch date or pricing has been revealed. The device goes on sale in the US and Canada today.

The PlayBook runs on RIM’s all-new BlackBerry Tablet operating system and offers internet access, gaming, multitasking and enterprise features.

It has a 7-inch high resolution display, mixing performance and portability and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.

The tablet also supports Adobe Flash 10.1 and has dual HD cameras for recording and video conferencing.

The PlayBook can be paired with a BlackBerry device via Bluetooth which enables a user to view content from the handset on the tablet.

Phones 4U marketing director Russell Braterman said in-house research collected by the retailer showed 69 per cent of 16-25 year olds currently owned a BlackBerry handset and said the arrival of the PlayBook in the UK would increase the over BlackBerry user experience.

“We’re thrilled to be offering a professional-grade tablet device that will enhance the user’s mobile experience,” Braterman said.

Our customers are always after the latest and greatest in technology, and the BlackBerry PlayBook is setting a new standard for the tablet category.”
