Today’s Mobile News in Brief (April 26, 2011)

As reported here on Cell Phones Etc. and across the Web, here’s your daily brief on what happened in the world of mobile phones this Tuesday, April 26th, 2011.

HTC Doubleshot appears in XML file, brings dual-core QWERTY handset to your future
There’s a number of dual-core handsets ready to hit the market, but we’ve yet to see one sporting a QWERTY keypad. However, if HTC doesn’t waste anymore time, we could see one sooner than later by way of the HTC Doubleshot. We haven’t got the slightest clue what it looks like, but on the good side, we do have some specs to work on – a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 processor, 800×480 resolution display, and Android Gingerbread as its OS. Not much yet to get excited about, but rest assured, we’ll have more on this once fresh info becomes available.

IT’S OFFICIAL: Android Clobbering Everyone, iPhone Dead In The Water
The mobile OS wars isn’t over yet, but it’s evident, at least according to Nielsen’s figures, that Android has the clear advantage over everyone else. Based on their latest tally, Android now accounts for 50% market share in the US. That’s double of their closest rival, iOS. With a delayed iPhone 5 launch and a new breed of dual-core powered Android handsets already in the pipeline, it seems that Android is poised to remain at the top spot in the months to come.
