Apple released the IPAD in April 2010, and sold near about 3 million of the devices in 80 days. Apple IPAD once reigned supreme of the market, but with the advent of more and more Android-powered tablets striking the market, the balance of power has tilted slightly more towards Google’s open source operating system, however the momentum isn’t enough at the moment to topple the IPAD off its lofty heights.
Relatively speaking all of this happened when Samsung Galaxy Tab played a vital role in advancing the Android platform cause, where it has done a pretty well in its sales figures across different markets in various continents.
Analytics firm Strategy claims that Android owned 22% of the global tablet market in the fourth quarter of 2010; which in effect saw the iPad’s market share drop to 75% from 96% in the same quarter.
When it comes to units shipped, Apple managed to move 7.3 million iPads last quarter, which is 74% more from the third quarter, while 2.1 million Android tablets were shipped, where out of that figure, a whopping 2 million were built by Samsung. With more than a century of Android-powered tablets being paraded at the recently concluded CES in Las Vegas, you can be sure that the tablet market is getting more cut-throat by the month. The main question is that will the IPAD 2 help Apple consolidate cement its position at the top of the loop?
