NAVIGON in Hamburg is now offering a free update for the full version of MobileNavigator for Android as well as for the Android select versions. This includes extra functions to make navigation with smartphones even easier. “Many of these functions have resulted from feedback from our customers,” says Gerhard Mayr, Vice President of Worldwide Mobile Phone Business at NAVIGON. “Now we can offer our users a product that is tailored precisely to their requirements.” The update also means that the app is now compatible with the new Android 3.0 operating system (Honeycomb), which has been specially optimised for tablets.2

The NAVIGON MobileNavigator for Android Version 3.6 is also available in the Android Market now. NAVIGON has incorporated a number of requests from users into the update for the new version. This version is suitable for use in the Android 3.0 operating system for tablets. It includes advanced destination information, route planner, App2SD and other useful features. The app even assists users in finding 8,000 WLAN hotspots in Germany. NAVIGON is offering a 30 percent discount on the full version during the promotional period until the end of May.

Weather, parking and extra info – Detailed information about the destination

Thanks to “advanced destination info”, users are well informed about their destination before they even set off. For example the info screen shows what the weather is like at the destination. If that’s not enough, it is even possible to view a forecast for the next three days. Thanks to the “Clever Parking” function, users can get information on where to park at the destination. What’s more, information for facilities like restaurants in the vicinity of the destination are also displayed, so the user knows what to expect when they get there.

Route planner and new languages for “Text-to-Speech”

The “route planner” now means users can save up to 50 different points along the route in preparation of the journey. Routes originating in different start points can be chosen as the user wishes and saved for later usage. “Text-to-Speech” has also been improved with additional languages, and from now on spoken announcements of road names are also available in Czech, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Norwegian and Portuguese.3 Along with the traditional points of interest (POIs), users can now also locate the nearest of 8,000 Deutsche Telekom Hotspots in Germany, thanks to a new search category.

Further improvements to complete the application

The app also includes improvements such as the manual map zoom, which allows the user to zoom in and out on the map using two fingers. App2SD makes it possible to save up to 50 percent of the app’s memory size on an SD card and therefore free up more memory on the device for other apps. The optional Car-Off GPS allows GPS signal to be turned off whenever required while the app runs in the background.4 This makes it possible to save energy and the device can run for longer without recharging. A direct web link to NAVIGON’s Android FAQ page assists users in finding answers to common questions.
