Motorola Xoom, which is the first tablet to run Android 3.0 Honeycomb, is on its way to store slopes in the US and Europe. In UK, we’ve already found out that it will be sold by Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy, and now another retailer has it on offer.
PC World has started taking pre-orders for the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi. This tablet is priced at 499.99, and it’s all set to start shipping on April 9. However this is the 3G-less, Wi-Fi-only version of the Xoom. The shipping date is still subject to change; however it’s going to be during or near the first week of April. PC World boasts that it will be the only retailer to have the Xoom Wi-Fi in the UK from day one, and, furthermore, that if you order from them you’ll be among the first people in Europe to receive it.
So if you really must have the newest, shiniest Android-powered tablet the minute it gets released in Europe, perhaps you should head straight over to PC World and place your pre-order. The price is a bit steep though, as usual with electronics sold in the UK. The 499.99 being asked for it equates to about $815, which is more expensive than the 3G version is in the US, sans subsidy.
But citizens of the UK and Europe in general must have gotten used to such ridiculous gadget pricing by now, since it’s been going on pretty much since the beginning of time.
