One of the longest running rumors in the mobile phone industry has now finally come to an abrupt end. No, the PlayStation Phone now dubbed as the XPERIA Play hasn’t been announced yet. We’re talking about the other hotly talked about handset, the Verizon iPhone.
The CDMA iPhone is now official. At first glance, you can hardly tell it apart from its GSM twin. It’s almost a carbon copy of the iPhone 4 except for two major differences – a redesigned metal sideband that sports 4 notches as opposed to just 3 with slightly relocated buttons to accomodate its CDMA-specific antenna, and mobile hotspot capabilities. Yes, just like you, that last bit caught me by surprise as well. With just one flick …err tap of a switch, you can easily create your own WiFi Hotspot with this Verizon-bound iPhone. A nifty little feature, this new reat will definitely help set this baby apart from the rest of the iPhone family, and bring it up to par with what’s available on most Android phones nowadays.
The Verizon iPhone will be ready for order beginning February 10, and just like the one currently available on AT&T, is priced at $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) though their plan offerings differ. You can read the full press release here.
