Marcelo Claure, founder and chief executive of US handset distributor Brightstar, predicts a riot – of a broad-ranging new breed of connected devices in 2011 – and an urgency for smart supply chain agents
“We are at the initial stages of what will be a monumental revolution.
“The first stage was the proliferation of handsets and the second was the introduction of data devices – smartphones, netbooks, e-readers, and of course tablets.
“This has led to a transformation in how we interact and access information.
“The next phase, which will start to take shape this year, is the introduction of a plethora of wireless and activate-able ‘devices’, ranging from consumer electronics and appliances to automobiles and health monitoring devices.
“The challenge for manufacturers and service providers will be the ability to get the right products at the right price to the right location at the right time.
“The industry will need supply experts capable of simplifying the complex wireless ecosystem, and providing the velocity necessary to quickly manage channels.
“An extraordinary revolution awaits.”
