It was reported today in The Wall Street Journal that Sprint Nextel Corp. will start selling the new version of the Apple iPhone in mid-October, called the iPhone 5. Sprint is also expected to get both the new iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4, however, it's unclear how many new subscribers Sprint will be able to grab this fall.
The deal should help the nation's 3rd carrier and give AT&T Inc. more ammunition in its attempt to win regulatory approval for its proposed acquisition of No. 4 U.S. carrier T-Mobile USA Inc. Verizon Wireless and AT&T will also begin selling the iphone in mid-October as well.
